Eleanor Winters, Robert H. Winters’ wife, kept his memory alive with her generosity and admiration for Winters College. The art gallery located inside the college is named after her. The Eleanor Winters Art Gallery is a space were talented and creative minds, a part of the Fine Arts community at York, can display their works with like minded and curious audiences from all around.
Reading Weekends
For a few days at the end of specific weeks, Winters College would host reading weekends. This was a trip where students could relax and enjoy a weekend away from campus with a change of scenery. Students were able to sign up for these types of weekends and head over to an area north of King City, Ontario. The Winters council did did cover most of the cost of the trip and because of this, only 12 students were able to go on each reading weekend excursion. Also, this supplement allowed for the cost of the entire trip to be very minimal.
Cosmicon
Cosmicon was a North American-wide convention for lovers of fiction and science fiction books, videos, movies, posters, etc. It was the first one hosted by a university. It was also one of the first comic-events within north America. It was so successful in its first year that it continued throughout the years of Winters College and other participants from other neighbouring colleges.
Special Events
Winters College held multiple events throughout the school year for students from all over campus. Some were hosted by Winters Council and some by clubs who were affiliated with the college. An event in particular that was held almost every year was a Winters College dance. Students had the opportunity to purchase tickets to attend a dinner and dance in the Winters Dining hall. Events like these helped promote student life on and off the school campus. Students in residence and commuters were also given a chance to come together and enjoy a night of fun.
